Sapp can fight in any promotion from 10/10.

年5月3日（祝・水）東京・国立代々木競技場第一体育館で開催されたTBS主催『HERO'S 2006』の「ミドル級世界最強決定トーナメント」開幕戦に出場メンバーとして発表されていたギルバート・メレンデス（アメリカ/シーザーグレイシー柔術）だったが、直前になっても来日せず。メレンデスの代役としてハニ・ヤヒーラ（ブラジル/アタイジジュニア柔術） が出場になった。

「メレンデスとは複数回に渡り契約書にサインしてあり、もう飛行機に乗るという状況でした」（谷川代表）。

　その後、メレンデスは8月26日に開催された『PRIDE 武士道 -其の十二-』に出場している。「うちとは独占契約してましたので、契約違反のメレンデス選手個人には訴えてあります」とK-1は8月前にメレンデスをすでに訴えていたことを明かす。

　11月5日（日）神奈川・横浜アリーナで開催の『PRIDE武士道−其の十三−』で青木真也（日本/パラエストラ東京）との対戦が決定しているメレンデスの出場はどうなるのか？「仮差し止めをするつもりはありません。ボブ・サップの件と違ってうちのリングに出てもいない選手なので、本人に契約違反の損害賠償をしているだけです」と谷川代表はコメントした
